Healing and New Beginnings

Dr. Richard Salazar proved to be a man of his word. He visited Clara and the baby every day during their hospital stay. He brought flowers, nutritious food, and baby supplies. More importantly, he brought presence — something Clara had desperately lacked.

He told her stories about Emilio’s childhood, trying to help her understand the man who had abandoned her. He also openly admitted his own failures as a father.

“I pushed him too hard,” he confessed one afternoon. “I wanted him to be perfect. Instead, I drove him away. I will never make that mistake with my granddaughter.”

Clara named her daughter Luna Grace Mendoza.

Luna — because she was born under the light of hope after so much darkness. Grace — because they had both been given another chance.

When Clara was discharged, Dr. Salazar insisted on helping her. He arranged for a comfortable apartment closer to the hospital and quietly covered the first six months’ rent. Clara initially resisted, but he gently reminded her:
